The Three Guns you Need in Contemporary America

There are a lot of hypothetical discussions related to “if I only had X amount of guns.”  As gear whores, we love this.  If you only had five guns, what would they be?  How about only three?

From a practical perspective, I have submitted a number of times that if a person who is not necessarily a shooting enthusiast wants a capable defensive arsenal, they can cover most bases with three guns, a primary pistol, a second duplicate of that pistol as a spare, and a defensive long gun of choice.  For example, two Glock 19s and an AR15 would probably be a good toolset for most problems.  Or, two Sig p320s and a Beretta 1301 shotgun if you prefer, etc…

If we leave this ever-popular discussion surrounding the number of guns we can turn to a more realistic take and address what class of guns would make sense.  Here, I think that most armed citizens are well served with three platforms to make up their defensive battery, regardless of how many specimens of each platform they possess.

In this regard, most would be well served with three defensive platforms consisting of a primary handgun, a deep concealment handgun, and a dedicated defensive long gun.  As an example, a Glock 19, a Smith and Wesson J Frame, and an AR15.  The primary defensive handgun can be worn when possible, but the small, deep concealment pistol can be used when dress and environment demand something very concealable.  The defensive long gun is a pillar of being prepared in our modern world.

Regardless of the number of guns you own, these three platforms make for a complete assortment of needed defensive firearms in contemporary America.

Live fire practice is essential. To buy the ammo that I use for training at the best possible price, go to:
