I am not into the “knife fighting” thing. Obviously, I would rather have a knife in my hand if facing a deadly threat than nothing, but I certainly prefer a firearm, and if not a firearm, I am more inclined towards impact tools. Impact to the head is instantaneous in effect, bleeding out is not. I used to train with edged weapons to some extent, but I am not really into that at all anymore.
However, I carry a blade of some kind on my person at all times, no exceptions (unless I am on a plane or some other completely restricted environment). The primary reason for this is that an edged tool is a critically important emergency rescue tool. Whether or not a knife factors into your defense plan, you must carry an edged tool. It does not need to be a knife, it can be even a small multi tool with a cutting blade.
