I am a believer in not taking gun guns out until it is necessary. Hence, a fast and consistent draw stroke gives one the confidence to wait and evaluate a situation rather than panic and draw a gun pre-maturely.
Still, there are legitimate reasons for which to have a gun in hand. When under duress, perhaps in a crowded environment filled with innocent people, how do you move safely and efficiently with a gun in your hand?
I favor two different “register” positions that accomplish this task. A register position is not a “ready” position that sets you up to quickly shoot. Rather, register positions facilitate movement with gun in hand. View the video for a demonstration of this skillset:
