I am convinced that we are very fortunate as a nation that President Trump was not killed in the recent attempt on his life. For those of you suffering from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), maybe temporarily put aside your mental illness and consider what would happen if he had been killed. Do you think that would have healed division in this nation or set it absolutely ablaze?
Anyway, yes, the mainstream media is abhorrent. For most of the past decade we here “Trump is Hitler, Trump is Hitler, wahhhhhh!” Of course, there are plenty of nut jobs out there who are influenced by this rhetoric and, in their reality-free zone of a mind, believe this and become willing to act accordingly. Afterall, if you are a moron who thinks reality is what NPR and MSNBC say it is, would you not also do your best to stop Hitler?
However, let’s all take a step back. It amazes me how most people have no concept of historical context. If it did not happen in the living memory of the individual, most people are completely out of touch with history. Assassination of American Presidents is a shockingly pervasive historical trend. Out of a total of 46 presidents of the United States, 4 have been killed while in office by assassination. That is a lot. Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, and John F. Kennedy were all killed by assassination while in office.
There have been many more attempts made on sitting or campaigning presidents. In 1912, John Schrank attempted to kill Theodore Roosevelt while he was giving a speech. Roosevelt was wounded, yet finished his speech anyway, in typical fashion. Gerald Ford was almost killed by Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme in 1975. Fromme was a member of Charles Manson’s crew. Ronald Reagan was shot, and almost died, by John Hinckley in 1981. And so it goes. It is, actually, remarkable that the attempt on Trump’s life is the first in decades.
So, while political division is running high, and the despicable mainstream media runs its endless crusade against Trump, let’s not forget history. Human nature has not changed. There is always some sociopath lunatic out to make a name for themselves, just waiting for the opportunity to do so.
What is remarkable, however, and the far bigger testament to a failing society than the assassination attempt itself, is the incompetence displayed by the Secret Service and the other law enforcement involved. We are destined to diversify and include ourselves to extinction. That is the most pathetic thing of all.
