The world is on fire.
The international situation is fostering terrorism and we might be close to an attack by sleeper cells here in the Continental United States. The other obvious problem is that the left is going to go wild if Trump wins. Que the 2020 style street riots that the media will proclaim as “mostly peaceful.” This is what we are in for, courtesy of our failed political leadership.
While, at the individual level, we can’t do much to swing politics beyond our personal vote and activism, we can do a lot to secure our own family and community. The first priority is, certainly, to stay alert to your surroundings and, indeed, stay alert to the happenings in the world. Avoid dangerous places, which are heavily populated, politically blue, urban areas. These will be the locations of riots and unrest, and they will be the targets of terrorist attacks. Have a get-home plan when you are at the office or traveling for work or leisure. Have a bug-out plan. As the recent hurricane exemplifies, you are more likely to need to bug out due to nature than to man, but it could be either. Have a solid plan in place and bags, supplies, and weaponry pre-packed for quick egress.
Stay armed, all the time. I love small guns, especially snub revolvers, for home carry, deep concealment needs, or for neighborhood carry while walking the dog. However, when going into public, I firmly advocate carrying a fighting gun. This is the era of the double-stack 9mm pistol, plus a spare magazine, on person. If the threat emerges to be a couple of rifle-wielding active killers, then a full-frame pistol is what you want in your hand, not a 380 pocket gun or a snub revolver.
Beyond this, consider the backup gun and how it now may factor into your lifestyle. This is where that 380 auto or snub revolver come in. For the armed citizen, I believe a backup gun, on body, primarily fills the role of arming someone else if things go bad. If you have a partner that does not carry, but has at least some basic firearms safety training, the backup gun can be used to quickly arm that person. A simple-to-use revolver, that has the added benefit of a long trigger pull that minimizes negligent discharge, is ideal for arming a minimally trained individual. Therefore, a snub revolver on the ankle or in the pocket, backing up the auto on your belt, is a great idea when spending time in public locations in the next few months.
Carry emergency medical gear. A small sling bag is a great solution and is so commonplace today that it goes unnoticed in almost any environment. Keep a full trauma kit and other essentials in this bag. There are also multiple ways to keep a substantial trauma kit on body and concealed if that is your preference.
We live in scary times, but until more of the populus starts demanding accountability from our political leadership, this is our sad reality. Act accordingly.
