Accelerationist ideology, broadly, refers to the intentional actions to drive a collapse of the current social order. This plays into the “fourth turning” theory, where a crisis occurs roughly every four generations. Accelerationist groups seek to hasten the fourth turning and bring about a collapse of the current government, regime, establishment, etc… These individuals believe that the current system is irredeemable, and they also see advantage for themselves in the chaos of collapse and/or the rise from the ashes. Accelerationist groups are found on both the far left and far right of the political spectrum. This ideology seems very nihilistic in nature, though it is not entirely so, and as has been witnessed, it perpetuates mass violence.
Accelerationism is nothing particularly new, but there has been far more recognition of it in recent years. Going back as far as Charles Manson, we see this doctrine. Further back, we see accelerationist ideology in the writings of Marx. More recently, some white supremacist groups have adopted it in hopes that they will take control of a society that rises in the aftermath, thus they want to burn the current system down. More broadly, there is significant evidence that many of the elites wish to accelerate a collapse of the current world order, but that is beyond this discussion. My focus here is on this movement as it pertains to inciting, or simply being used as self-justification, for mass casualty violence.
While there are organizations that embrace this theory, and seek to recruit, it is also an ideology that appeals to the incel with diabolical ideations. Latching on to a supposed cause is always more appealing than the self-acknowledgement that one is simply a violent loser. Just as Jihadi terrorism motivates lone wolves, we also see lone wolf radicalization in this cause.
In the past several years we have witnessed mass casualty events that have been steeped in this ideology. It appears that the 2019 attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, was a focusing event for this new trend. This attack took the lives of fifty-one individuals as they attended Friday prayer. The perpetrator left a manifesto that, like most others of this nature, was completely insane, but alluded to a desire to accelerate a race war. This event was for accelerationist violence what Columbine was for school attacks: every sicko who has followed suit is influenced by it.
There have been several copycats of this act, though they have not targeted mosques again until the most recent one, as of this writing, the two individuals who attacked the San Diego mosque, killing three, including a security guard, then self-terminating. These two diabolical creatures also left a rambling manifesto that, if we are to believe the manifesto is real (another discussion entirely), clearly demonstrates an accelerationist ideology, with a good dose of nihilism thrown in. Previous to this there was the El Paso, Texas, Walmart murder of twenty-three people by an accelerationist perpetrator. Also, in 2022, the attack on Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, NY, which killed ten, was committed by an accelerationist perpetrator.
Frankly, this author is not particularly interested in the ideology that motivates such disgusting savagery, but such knowledge aids in thwarting it. Accelerationist terrorism is only a newer cause that violent incels now grab onto. Whether it be Jehadi terrorism, far left or far right terrorism, white supremacist terror, accelerationist terror, trans terrorism (of great increase recently, primarily against Christian churches and schools), or any other form of mass violence, just know that there is unlimited hate for the innocent in this world. Houses of worship are a common target, as churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples, have all been targeted at some point or another. Security teams are, absolutely, necessary.
A consideration worthy of note was exemplified by the recent attack in San Diego ; there is good likelihood of multiple attackers, and we will probably see that manifest again. Since this ideology is rife among the incel community, and is spread via online platforms, there is a radicalization aspect to it, with groups such as 7.6.4 and Order of 9 Angles putting out such propaganda. Two or more individuals teaming up via connection through these groups is likely, if anything being reported on the supposed manifesto is true.
But, regardless of the ideology in play, the solution to mass murder remains the same: shoot it in the face when it comes through the door. The answer to this problem is gained in training, not by listening to academic pontificators who never get their hands dirty. Be an expert in dispensing the ballistic solution to such violence.
