Snakestaff Systems Cantable Mag Carrier Review

A few weeks ago, I posted a review on the excellent Dark Star Gear Koala magazine carrier which is my dedicated training mag pouch.  While I don’t do many gear reviews, magazine carriers are important pieces of kit, so it is a good time to also review the device that I have gone to for my EDC spare magazine.  I always carry a spare mag along with my gun, and for years I have used nylon-made carriers for this as they are more comfortable for all-day wear and the inefficiency of inserting the magazine back into them is not a big deal for EDC.

Snakestaff Systems is a relatively new company best known for medical gear, particularly their extremely small and light-weight EDC tourniquet.  As an aside, I bought the wide version of the first generation of that tourniquet, which I reviewed here on the blog a few years ago, and I was not particularly pleased with it.  I will say that I purchased one of the second generation TQs from them and like it a lot, finding it greatly improved over the first generation.

Anyway, it turns out that I also bought one of their “snake skins” which is a nylon pouch made to carry the TQ.  I found the TQ uncomfortable while in the belt line, so I ended up turning that snake skin pouch into a speed strip carrier for my revolver, which I attached to my Phlster Enigma, and it works perfectly in that capacity, so it hardly went to waste.

Upon seeing that Snakestaff released a dedicated magazine carrier it caught my interest as I found the snake skin pouch so versatile and good for what I use it for.  I ordered both the magazine carrier and the compatible belt clip they offer right on their web site.

The CMC rides identical to my training mag carrier, the Dark Star Gear Koala, yet is more comfortable for all-day wear

I am absolutely pleased with this magazine carrier.  You can adjust the cant, for which it is ambidextrous, and you have some control over ride depth as well.  I like to EDC my magazine quite deep in the belt line and this pouch works excellent for that application.

The carrier is well made and it fits a standard double-stack 9mm magazine perfectly.  It rides much more comfortably than any solid-kydex pouch, so, again, perhaps not ideal for extended training sessions, but absolutely ideal for EDC.  Highly recommended.  I am not affiliated with Snakestaff Systems in any way, but as usual, I am quick to recommend an excellent product.
